Alpha Omega, Napa Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2018

James Suckling 94pts: Black-olive and savory smoked-meat aromas, along with dried blueberry and walnut. It’s full-bodied with firm, powdery tannins. Dark chocolate adds to the savory flavors. Concentrated and focused. Try from 2023.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 93pts: Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon rolls out of the glass with ready-for-business notes of freshly crushed black and red plums, Black Forest cake and ripe blackcurrants, plus suggestions of licorice, tar and new leather with a touch of wild sage. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with bold black fruit layers, framed by soft, velvety tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long with a compelling floral perfume coming through. Nicely done!

Jeb Dunnuck 93pts: The base appellation 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley succeeds wonderfully in the vintage, offering classic blue fruits, cassis, scorched earth, crushed stone, and tobacco-like aromas and flavors. This beauty is medium to full-bodied and has a seamless, elegant texture, remarkable balance, and a great finish. It can be drunk today with loads of pleasure but will benefit from a handful of years of bottle age and drink nicely for 15+ years.

Winemaker Matt Brain, possessing a master’s degree in biosciences and a background in process engineering, brings naturalist philosophies and highly technical abilities to winemaking at Alpha Omega where he began as Associate Winemaker. As a winemaker who believes that every vineyard block has a specific set of unique characteristics, he aims to identify those distinctive attributes and to express them in the glass as naturally as possible.

Consulting Winemaker
Andy Erickson has crafted an illustrious career since arriving in Napa Valley in 1994. Over the years, he has worked with some of Napa Valley’s most notable wineries, including Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle, and launched his own family labels. Andy believes in the uniqueness of the diversity of terroir in Napa Valley and highlighting that character, a philosophy that has been the basis for Alpha Omega handcrafting some of the most highly sought-after wines in Napa Valley.

Critical Acclaim
Famed wine critic Robert Parker wrote early on about Alpha Omega, “This relatively new Rutherford winery continues to turn out impressive wines that merit attention from consumers.” Vintage after vintage, prominent wine experts continue to heap praise on Alpha Omega’s dazzling wines.

Dubbed a “Winemaker’s Dream Vintage” the 2018 growing season in Napa saw cooler than average temperatures throughout Spring and Summer. An abundance of rain in February was followed by continuous days of sunshine and mild temperatures that made for uniform vines and even cluster growth. With no major heat spikes to contend with, there was no need to rush through harvest. Cooler temperatures allowed us to pick when we wanted, without stress and under optimal conditions. The gift from Mother Nature translated to wines that not only have great concentration but also an amazing freshness.
