Château La Croix de Pez, Saint-Estèphe, 2016

James Suckling 93/00: “This is very powerful and rich with gorgeous depth and intensity. Full and excellent. Another new name to watch. Some coffee and caramel here, but also plenty of blackberries and a generous slug of moderately dry tannins, making this a bold wine, yet easy to drink. Lively, dry finish. Drink or hold.”

Located in the top most appellation of the Medoc in Saint Estephe, Croix de Pez is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc on gravelly clay soils. A fruity nose is followed by round tannins and soft fruit flavors on the long finish.

Pez means “peace” in Old French and is still commonly used in Saint-Estèphe. This peaceful haven is a Garden of Eden for making great wines.
Destemming and crushing of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature with selected yeasts and maceration of the skins. To obtain a wine for
ageing, rich in tannins, this takes 3 to 4 weeks.
