Maison L’Envoye, Fleurie, Chateau Vivier Monopole, Beaujolais, 2018

Lifted aromas of fresh wild strawberries, raspberry jam and violets with hints of nutmeg and smoked nuts. The mouthfeel is alive with layers of juicy red and dark berries, black olives and cinnamon which are supported by velvety tannins and well-balanced natural acidity. The wine finishes with poise and harmony. Delicious.

Food Pairing: Gamay is delicious on its own; the simpler bottling can even benefit from a light chill before serving. It is the quintessential picnic red and goes well with simple charcuterie, country pâté and terrines. Gentle tannins and bright acidity make it a great option with Asian food, even dishes with a bit of spice. Gamay is also great with poultry, especially duck or Thanksgiving turkey with cranberry sauce.

About: Driven by a tireless hunt for elusive sites where Pinot Noir shines, Maison L’Envoy? traverses the globe with the intention of presenting the acme of regionality and winemaking styles. Originating in Burgundy, they pursued gilded terroir to craft this region’s wine trinity: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay Noir. Yet from this tenor of focus and commitment a global fellowship emerged, with terroir-driven Pinot Noir as the linchpin. Now, with winemaking footprints in Burgundy, Willamette Valley, Tasmania and Central Otago, Maison L’Envoy? champions many unsung growers who have farmed their vineyards for decades and generations, some mere feet away from more illustriously cited neighbors. This project has been a standout since its debut in 2011 including Wine & Spirits naming Maison L’Envoy? a ‘Winery To Watch’ in 2015.
