Maison L’Envoye Moulin A Vent, Terre de The, Beaujolais, 2018

Bold aromas of ripe plums and black berries, dried flowers and wet stone. The palate is full of mouthfilling black and red fruits that are balanced by an underlying savoriness. Well-integrated, supple tannins provide an impressive frame to the primary fruit. The wine finishes as it begins – with juicy, ripe fruit and a succulent acid line.

Food Pairing: Gamay is delicious on its own; the simpler bottling can even benefit from a light chill before serving. It is the quintessential picnic red and goes well with simple charcuterie, country pâté and terrines. Gentle tannins and bright acidity make it a great option with Asian food, even dishes with a bit of spice. Gamay is also great with poultry, especially duck or Thanksgiving turkey with cranberry sauce.

About: Driven by a tireless hunt for elusive sites where Pinot Noir shines, Maison L’Envoy? traverses the globe with the intention of presenting the acme of regionality and winemaking styles. Originating in Burgundy, they pursued gilded terroir to craft this region’s wine trinity: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay Noir. Yet from this tenor of focus and commitment a global fellowship emerged, with terroir-driven Pinot Noir as the linchpin. Now, with winemaking footprints in Burgundy, Willamette Valley, Tasmania and Central Otago, Maison L’Envoy? champions many unsung growers who have farmed their vineyards for decades and generations, some mere feet away from more illustriously cited neighbors. This project has been a standout since its debut in 2011 including Wine & Spirits naming Maison L’Envoy? a ‘Winery To Watch’ in 2015.
