Matthiasson Tendu – Mataro, Dunnigan Hills

Organic light, chillable red!

Also known as Mourvèdre, Mataro is a thick-skinned grape, and can make some big, bold, full-bodied reds. Matthiasson’s take on the varietal is lighter, fresher, juicy and oh-so-drinkable. Full of dark berry flavors, this wine is like taking a walk through a wild berry patch. A nice line of acidity helps keep it in balance, and there is no over-extraction going on here.

In 2012, the Matthiassons and their wine broker embarked on a new project to produce handcrafted, affordable natural wines under its Tendu label. The Tendu wines come in distinctive, high-shouldered, short-necked, one-liter bottles, similar to the bottles of everyday Austrian Gruner Veltliner wines.
Tendu is French for taut or tense, and the Tendu wines display body, strength, and zest. Made with grapes sourced from the less expensive Sacramento Valley, the Tendu wines are refreshingly delicious and affordable.
